| Most cookies are high in sugar and fat. Are you sure they want her to eat unhealthy food to gain weight? There are lots of nutritious foods that are high in calories, like dried fruits, nuts, whole wheat bread, cheese, beans, avocadoes, and juice. I would stay away from white sugar and butter. It may fatten her up, but it's completely empty calories.

| You can make a wide variety of foods using toasted wheat germ and whole grains (it's actually yummy) For instance, I'd make a standard brownie recipe using 'raw' sugar and substitute a half cup of wheat germ for a half cup of whole grain flour. I would seriously go to a health food store in addition to talking with a nutritionist about the situation. You can make all kinds of wonderful dishes that aren't just empty calories. I mean, if you don't want vitamins, why not just feed handfuls of M&M's? April |

| Krispy Kreme....They started up a franchise here in Tim Horton's turf (Vancouver) about a year ago. Most of us Canucks won't go there until they learn how to spell..... |

| Whatever fats you use, make sure they are not hydrogenated!! Those result in trans fats, which are even more dangerous to arteries. Everyone needs to be careful about the types of fats they choose, no matter what the scale says. In spite of needing to gain weight, too much refined sugar, fats or other manufactured foods can harm even underweight people. Even thin people can develop diabetes and heart disease. My father had his first heart attack at age 37, and his fatal MI at 42. He was always underweight.

| Have an old style Italian Bakery in the area? I can say from experience that this can and will do the trick. But like a couple folks have pointed out if the child is to put on weight, make it from eating a healtier diet. By training the child to eat alot of sweets and junk food now can only hurt as the child gets older. Learning to eat a balanced diet now will save them from having to place restrictions on the diet later. Case in point would be that we have a 9 year old nephew that has some issues now for poor eating habits. At close to 200lbs the family was just told he's a heart attack looking for a place to happen. Scarry thought. Last edited by oldschool1982 : 07-03-2006 at 02:38 PM. |

fyi story... I am vegetarian, have been for years. I decided to have my cholesterol checked and it registered a whopping 221. Strange considering the vegetarian bit. I did use, however, a lot of hydrogenated oil to replace butter and such. I did some research and it turns out that the human body doesn't digest hydrogenated oil properly and it causes one's liver to produce more of its own cholesterol. I switched from hydrogenated oil to real butter etc, all real food instead of the processed substitutes. Within a month, my cholesterol dropped to 180. That's better performance than Lipitor did for a friend of mine. Reason for the fyi story... perhaps your nephew could improve his health by simply switching to real food and avoid the junk that contains hydrogenated oils (potato chips are a big offender). A 9-year-old with a heart attack on the horizon is a terrible thought. |

| I'm not believing this Doctor. Start pumping junk food.additives. Please, for that childs sake, call your local hospital, there should be a dietition on staff that will give you what you're looking for. This is usually a free service, Just my opinion now. pan Last edited by panini : 07-08-2006 at 12:55 PM. |
