Default Question

I am known by friends and family to make great cheesecakes. Up untill now I have only ever made a plain cheesecake. I usually top mine with my home made tripple berry sauce but while thinking of a twist for making it I recently thought of adding orange zest to it. The question I am going to ask if doing this will create a cheesecake with a strong orange flavor, or will it not affect it at all, or will it ruin my cake?

any answers will be greatly appreciated

Since the one you make now is great, why mess with it? If you add any flavoring do it in moderation, you don't want an orange cake, you want an orange cheesecake.

If you make it a chocolate cheesecake or add a chocolate layer, and maybe leave out the berries, I bet it would be delicious.

How about practicing with the topping, then incorporating it with your cheesecake.

Add a little zest and see how you feel. Add more as you like. Or add some orange liquour? Some grand marinier or some cointreau. If that works, try adding some to the base too to balance it. Or maybe some zest in the crumb base would work.

Just because everyone loves your cheesecake doesnt mean they wont like the new and improved version. Just call it something different.

You could use chocolate biscuits in the base and a layer of segmented oranges halfway through the cheesecake layer?? Top with grated chocolate

Well thanks for the advice but the only problem is that I cannot get my hands on any liquor as I am only 19 I do how ever like your other ideas. I will most definitly experiment with balancing flavors and such.

another option is 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest (2 lemons)

You can add orange zest to your cheesecake and it will not ruin it. How much orange flavor it has will depend on how much zest you use. Many plain cheesecakes use lemon or orange to enhance the flavor.

Go mad with a little mint flavoring, some lime zest and rum extract. Mojito cheesecake.

Now I have just got to make that for my sister who is crazy about Mojito`s !

There is this great Brazilian restaurant she brought me to and they serve up a great one with fresh mint leaves .....
I prefer cuban rum (7 years) in mine. Lethal....it makes me sing !!!
