Confused British Decorating and French Pastry Supplies

I found this nice site that has imported British Decorating and French Pastry Supplies.

Beryl's Cake Decorating & Pastry Supplies

It's located in North Springfield, VA. They even have Kosher Edibles.

I am not happy with Beryls. They are WAY over priced and very, very SLOW. I ordered some molds 3 weeks before I needed them. I was sent a confirmation email that my order was processed, blah blah. Three days before the wedding, I call to ask where they were. Turns out, they hadn't even been mailed yet b/c they were back logged. The woman on the phone said that it stated in the confirmation email that it would take about 3 weeks to ship orders out. I read the email again and re-read it for the third time and saw no such thing. I ended up having to pay a lot more for them to speed up my order then send it over night.

I later found that I could have ordered the molds direct from England at half the price INCLUDING shipping and gotten it faster! How do ya like that!

PS
Got the Beryl's link with my Baker's Online newsletter.

Beryls is extremely slow and I find thier on line catalog hard to navigate! They are the only ones who carry the unbreakable gel (which I have yet to try) and a couple of other things. I would love to know, also, where you were getting some of these products direct. Please share!

Just ordered odd numbered cake pans from them. They came in a weeks time. No problem.
Knock on wood ** I haven't had any problems yet.

How absolutely annoying. The site isn't there anymore. Anyhow, it was for a company called Hawthorn Hill. I just emailed them asking what the deal is. I don't think you could order online, but you could fax the order in. I have their tutorial book in front of me, but there's only phone and fax numbers. No snail mail address.

PME also does mail order (can't order online either), but they are unfair to their American customers. The prices on their web site for British customers are very low even with the 17% VAT tax thing. It says that customers outside of the UK don't have to pay the VAT. I emailed them about wholesale and they sent me a catalog with US retail prices which are higher! I did the math and a tip is $2.75; it's $3.75 in their US retail catalog. A set of plunger cutters should be $9.24, but is sold in the US catalog for $16.75. At first I thought maybe they meant "suggested" retail price list, but nope, they just charge more to us Americans! That's still cheaper than most places which charge $5 - $6 for the tips, but I still don't think it's fair. Anyhow, I meant to ask them about that pricing difference. I was thinking to pretend I never even saw the stupid US retail price list and just order from them via fax; then total the amount myself, minus the VAT and tell them to just tack on shipping charges to my credit card. And see if they do anything about it. I'm sure Americans must go to their web site all the time, see the prices and just fax in the order.

Anna, I bought the unbreakable gel from Fante's, which is a local kitchen supply store. Haven't used it yet though. Whatever I paid for it, it was the same price as Beryl's (I think), but I didn't have to pay Beryl's high shipping prices.

Ok, I dunno what the heck is going on. I got my email returned to me from Hawthorne Hill as undeliverable. BOO! I'll email Beryl's and see if they are still even in business.
