Happy New Year to all! I have a question about footwear. What do you all consider the most comfortable and durable shoes, clogs, etc for foodservice professionals? Thanks, Mark

YES. Birkenstocks are the best for the foot, leg and back. Try to get them a size smaller than you usually take because they are roomy. Since I've been out of the kitchen and can't see my feet, I wear them around town. Most comfortable.

The only other suggestion I could make, is to wear boots. They add an extra dimension to back support as well as protect your feet from physical hazards (ie splashes, dropped knives, dropped pans, etc) I wear skid-resistant, steel-toed, full leather uppers.

I've been wearing Birkenstocks for the past three years. Very similar design to a clog but in plastic. You can run 'em through the dishwasher, change the insole, very versitile. Only problem is that when talking with tables, I sometimes crouch in a way that has made them crack (not good when it rains). For Christmas, I've ordered a new pair from Birkenstocks (can't remember the name of them) that are similar but have a heel for support, are a little more closed at the back so they don't go flying off if you have to run with them on and can withstand higher temperatures. Can't wait to get them. ------------------ ----------------- To Eat is a necessity, to eat intelligently is an art -------------------------

I have worn clogs for many years. Ihave had all kinds, full wooden sole, half rubber and half wood sole, all rubber sole and as well I have had the rubber birkenstocks. The pair that I was wearing was called Allpro. They are a devision of Birkenstocks. They are all rubber and have the removable sole. The only problem with them is that I have had 2 pairs that have cracked right down the center. When I took them back, the sales person said that I'm noy supposed to bend down in them. Just so you know, these shoes were made specifically for the food service industry. From now on I buy the rubber soles with the leather upper.

My husband has been a Kitchen Manager/Chef for the pat 15 years. In the early years he wore the Sears Die hard...swore by them. However a few years ago they changed the design of them and they would bother him immensly. Then he tried the Rockport kickoffs, no good...He just bought a pair of the Shoes for Crews clogs and loves them...they also add about 2 inches to his overall height, which makes him look fantastic. Jsut a few thoughts from a new poster...LOL!!

I finally got my ALLPRO clogs that I mentioned earlier. Amazing. I can finally walk to the storeroom without getting soaked and I feel like I'm walking on a cloud of air!!!! Amazing what a great pair of shoes can do. I will let you know about any cracking.

I just went into a store that carries Birkenstocks and asked them to order them. They're in the Briks catalogue, just ask them to look for them!
