"Food Arts" is one of the best for keeping up with what is happenig in the restaurant scene. As far a food mags, my favorite is Saveur.

I agree, Food Arts is tops! And it is free to the industry, although I had no bad feelings when I paid, before I went through the process of getting it free.

Other freebies include Chef and Santé -- while not at the level of Food Arts, they have some useful articles. Santé focuses a lot on wine and liquor.

If I might add a few... Food Service Director (for corporate food service trends) as well as Restaurant Business and Restaurant Hospitality are both good works for keeping up.

Post restaurant news/subscriptions

These are web-sites that work well for the needs you describe:

http://wwwrestaurantedge.com
http://rimag.com/
http://www.smartbrief.com/nra/index

My two favorite publications are Saveur magazine and Art Culinaire. They are best subscribed to and receiving through regular mail. Great reference material.
The least expensive subscription I have found for Saveur is:

http://www.largeprintreviews.comSaveur_magazine.html

Art Culinaire (extraordinary!) and back issues found at:
http://www.getatrc.com

I saw them at industry shows. Although I first saw Food Arts at restaurant school.

BTW: The names in my post are links; if you click on them you'll get to the magazines' websites.
