| With Christmas and the holidays coming up I was wondering if anyone had any helpful hints into gingerbread houses. I made a rather large church last year about 2'L X 3'W X 2'H. This year I was going to atempt a Victorian House and was wondering if I need to stablize the inside with anything. Any hints or ideas would be great. I would like to hear what you have attempted and if it worked. |

| You must stablize. Probably in a few places. Many Vicorian houses have 2,3, or 4 roof lines and I would support each of these. The way you do it will depend on a lot of things. Is this a competition? If so what are the guidelines for using none food products? If you want to use all food products, I have food rice krispy squares to work well. Bake them, cut them to fit your needs, and stack them to fit your needs, gluing them together with royal icing. If people can see inside the house it becomes more difficult, but by placing walls stratigiclly and creating support columns you should be able to keep your roof from caving in. You may also want to consider using graham crackers for your roof. They tend to be lighter than gingerbread and you can cut them by putting them into a warm oven for a few minutes to soften them up so that they dont crack as you are cutting. Hope this is helpful. |
