Default CV or resume

It depends on what you mean by a bio -- do they want a Curriculum Vitae (CV) or a resume?

It is for my employer (caterer) she's sending out info re: changes in her company and wants to include my professional biography. Nothing too long. What should I include?

It's simple. Keep it to 100 words or less, write in the 3rd person ("he" or "she," not "I") and just tell'em where you went to school (if you did) and when, your last couple of restaurants and what you did in them. That's all there is to it.

Thumbs up

Don't be afraid to brag a little (in the third person) also. If you don't no one else will! Cruze the net a little, I am sure you can find a couple of bio's to read.

Default Bio Complete!

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. It feels weird to give a bio, it does sort of feel like "bragging."

I'm taking a transition class right now for getting out of the military and they say that's the key to getting yourself a good paying job: Bragging. You need to make yourself look so much better than all the other canidates and then blow them away in an interview. I don't know how much the culinary world is oriented on resumes and things of that sort but I would imagine alot of the big restaurants/resorts use them.

Default Curriculum Vitae (CV) or a resume

Curriculum Vitae (CV) <<< Thank you so much for writing that. This may sound silly, but I had NO IDEA what that meant when I saw it on job postings...Now I know what the letters mean....what is the definition?

It's all about marketing baby! (to use a more suitable term) Be truthful of your schooling, places worked, and titles earned. Also a good place to add what type of cooking you specialize in. Sometimes bios end with geography (where you're from, born, live, etc.) and family status. I know it feels sort of wierd writing this, but until you become successful enough to afford some type of marketing assistant, you're pretty much on your own when it comes to writing bios.

Oh, another thing. Try to highliight your strengths, and the better places worked at. Aaaah.....you probably knew that already.

Friz – sorry, I've been out for a bit....

Curriculum Vitae: Course of life.

It is the summary of your life's work, in career, education and otherwise. It would include not only your job experience and education history, but research, presentations, personal experience etc.

Even if you are not looking for another job, it is a cool thing to create because it gives you the opportunity to recognize all that you have accomplished....
