I work with a few retailers that occasionally want chefs to demonstrate a new product or recipe. Does anyone know of a good way find interested chefs?

Thanks

Jjonesconnect, I'm moving your post to the Professional Chefs' forums. That'll be a better place to get replies to your query in the Welcome Forum (which is for introductions).

Regards,
Mezzaluna

I subscribe to the various job search engines (Monster, HotJobs, CareerBuilder, etc.) and I think on CB I've had a few instances of part time offers of cooking recipes in the store, using produce from the store and recipes from the "hiring" firm. It is set up as a contracted type position, where the recipes, utensils, chef coat and headwear are provided, and you bring appropriate chefwear pants, footwear, and personality!

I'll see if I can provide a link to one of the job opportuntiy listings so you can actually see what I mean . . . . .

Default Sur La Table

We a had a Sur La Table open up nearby about three years ago and they just asked chefs...and cooks that could be vouched for to teach classes. They paid out 150.00 a pop and you end up with a 20% dicount when you shop in their over-priced store. I did five classes while I was working at two local restaurants. I'm a bit of a busy bee...Check out local eateries for good cooks and chefs and offer a handsome salary and I'll bet you'll end up having to beat them off with a broom handle. It's a nice ego boost too for local culinarians to get in on the demo thing too. Oh...we all know how we chefs and cooks love to be stroked!

It'd definitely be helpful if you told us your location. Perhaps there's one (or more) amongst us who are in the vicinity.

Ciao,

Now that I have sold my shop, I would love to get into the demo chef mode.
Let me know if there are positions for Pastry Chefs!

whoa, where was I? you sold your shop?
Samplers are usually not professionals.
Demo chefs, most of the demonstrators I know of are housewifes. Most of the cooking teachers I know are chefs with a small percentage of non-professionals. Most of the stage personalities worth their salt are BIG and Bold entertainers.....

Each is a different gig, there are different job descriptions for each.....and in certain cases you may want a non-professional cook.

Just my two cents.

You might want to try the local chef school. There are always job postings boards. Just make sure to interview your prospects first. As someone who went through chef school at the age of 39-40 with a bunch of 18-year-olds, you want to ensure that the person you hire can put a sentence together, let alone cook.
