| I know I'm in a distinct minority, but I have no use for Hells Kitchen. I've seen it, as we say, twice---the first & last time. What a joke! What we have is a bunch of people with no credentials for the job competing to run a multi-million dollar kitchen. And to achieve this goal they have a **** of a chef trying his best to destroy what little self esteem they have by screaming at them without rhyme or reason, belittling everything they do, and changing the rules every ten minutes. I think the show is an insult to every real food service professional in the industry. If this is the best Ramsey brings to the table it's understandable why he couldn't make it in the Big Apple. | But notice two things: a) He gets a lot nicer to the constants by the time it's whittled down to the last 5 or so, unless they screw up big time. b) I would say that maybe 3 people out of the entire group of contestants are qualified to run a kitchen from each season, and they don't do a half bad job if you watch beyond the shouting. And to say that NY is the only city in the world (essentially what you're saying) is where all the pros reside is a bit (very) insulting to the millions and millions of chefs and restauranteurs elsewhere. | watch some of ramsays other shows... say 'the "f" word' which is the one where he goes into a failing kitchen and brings it up to scratch by shouting his way through the fassade the chef has put up to hide the fact that his kitchen is crap! |

| All I can say is that I have eaten at each of Ramsay's places in London, and also at his place in Glasgow which closed. I have never had a less than stellar meal. His standards are very high. Just because, according to some reports, he hasn't 'made it' in New York is of no consequence. He has nothing to prove over here... his Michelin stars say it all! I never knew that New York was the centre of gastronomic excellence.... Aren't a number of your very best restaurants in Texas and California? |

| I didn't see the first series, but enjoyed the second series of "Hells Kitchen". It was interesting -- and a bit disappointing -- to read that neither of the winners of the first two series have actually been awarded the prizes that the publicity claimed. Viewers were told all through the second series that the winner would get to run his or her own new restaurant at a resort in Las Vegas. Not so. In fact, the young woman, Heather West, who won the second series was simply given a job as "senior chef" in an existing restaurant at the resort. Restaurant Hospitality says of the series, "...neither Hells Kitchen winner has much to show for their victory, although a mountain of free publicity has been generated for the ventures of Ramsay and others. If the show doesn't follow through on awarding its prize, it doesn't say much about the integrity of the show's star, its producers or the network on which it appears. Sadly, that's the true reality of this show." **This is the twenty-first century, not the nineteenth. And yet, whoever wrote the software for this forum decided that the word h e l l might shock some people, and consequently arranged for the word to be replaced with asterisks if anyone was wicked enough to use it in a posting. That reminds me, I must get round to covering up the legs of my piano before someone gets upset by their indecency.** |

| I know that one of the winner's of the UK version of the show did open a restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne - I think his name was Terry Miller, but I don't know whether it is still in operation. He called it something like Rockafellas... He named it after his 'signature' dish, on the first show - which almost rendered Ramsay speechless... and not with pleasure! |

| I watched his other show, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares... and it was very informative. Again, he seems to treat the people with respect, if they deserve it. |

Then we'll recruit people who are unqualified to compete in the contest. Then we'll treat them with disrespect because they aren't worthy of respect. And why are they unworthy? Because they were unqualified to play in the first place. And this is Ramsay at his best? That is, after all, the title of the thread, and the contention of the thread starter. His other shows, and his other restaurants, and all his other self-aggrandizing projects have nothing to do with the topic. |

| OK, allow me to rephrase my comment. He seems to treat the people (we are human, so we all have some variation of mistakes, bad choices, etc.) who work hard, seem to learn and work smart with respect. Your mileage may vary. I guess in the end we are all entitled to our hatred or love of people... just depends on which facets of someone you see and whether you see it as a good or bad thing, eh?
