| Hi all, New to this site and new to cooking, I have recently been accepted as a student to one of the local resteraunts chefs, he has kindly offered to teach me his experience in cookery. I admit I have little knowledge about the creation of any master piece, my knowledge base is limited to what I read on tv, what I try at home and what I watch on tv ( Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein, etc, etc) I want to bring some good dishes with me but what I know is not a quick process to make, and these dishes aren't good to show the head chef, asking them to wait 30+ minutes while i cook it! lol. I was wondering if you could give me any ideas or tips on perhaps making a simple yet tastey tomato soup, or maybe a pan fried salmon with Potato side. I look forward to reading your thoughts! Ade |

| Congrats on the new job.....My opinion is let him teach you, take a lot of notes........He will be more willing to teach you if your glass is empty..What I mean by that is, don't say stuff like ya I know or you should do it this way, remember he is already a chef and probaly wont be impressed with tomato soup or seared salmon....By saying those stuff to him, he will think your glass is full, meaning that you think you know everything and are unteachable. Be and always remain teachable.. If you want to impress him, show up on time, look presentable, alway always act profesional, take notes, take notes, take notes, and take notes......Then study notes and study the notes the next time he asks you to make that same dish, you will no haow to with out having to say>>How do you do that again, that will impress him......Just remember what I say is only my opinion not fact.... Buy yuorself a little pocket notepad and pencils and take notes, they will come in handy...............

| Stay eager. Stay energetic. Stay hungry. And stay teachable! There's absolutely nothing worse than trying to teach an aspiring cook who has an ego that says "I know lots!".
