Forgive me for posting a response to this topic because I am not a chef yet but I desire to become one in the future. I want to go to Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colorado soon for gourmet cooking classes. I was wondering if those who are aspiring to the culinary field and are not yet chefs can post topics in this forum too? I just logged onto cheftalk and the first thing that caught my eye was this new forum; this new addition to the Chef Talk Cafe.

By the way, I just went to your Global Chefs website and bookmarked the site. It looks like an excellet site to browse, especially for one who has a passion for cooking and a taste for good food and who wants to be a gourmet chef someday like I am. Hehe, I think I would like to be added to the mailing list there too!

I am so excited about this new addition. It may be difficult as I think we are operating with English as the language of exchange. So we won't get everybody. However, it has to start somewhere. I hope that this will provide a forum for women in particular who reside in places where professional cooking traditionally a male profession to seek support that may not be available to them in their own countries. I participate at this website because folks seem genuinely supportive and try to be as helpful as possible to their peers.

I am also excited with the prospect that a kind soul in another part of the world may assist me in getting obscure ingredients not available in my neck of the woods.

Kudos to ChefTalk.com for being such a great resource.

The word has spread Jer and welcome to cheftalk.

In response to monpetitchoux:

Some people on this board are fluent in French. I am! And there are others amongst us.

There are probably people on this board who are fluent in Italian, Spanish or German. Some are of Greek origin and they probably still can read and write the language. And we have Asians too!

Wouldn't it open doors if everyone could identify themselves as being fluent in one or several languages?

Just a thought!

and a smile

and a wink

and a big huge grin

Talking

Simple. If a French chef from France wants to share something with us, he'll be able to do so in French. I think there's enough people here to translate, for everyone's benefit!

No big deal Jer!

LOL, Kimmie, I don't think the introduction of French here is a very good idea. I'm sure there will be some people who are not familiar with that language and I am one of them. I would like to take part in all the conversations, but can't do so if they are always in French. I remember I tried to take French classes in school but failed because I could not hear the proper pronounciations and couldn't communicate correctly. The only language I know is English and I do know a little Latin.
