Post hand spat

Everyone I work with (I started a new job last week) carries what they call a hand spat. It looks like a bowl scraper to me. Are they the same thing and where can I get one? Are they available by the each or do I have to order several? They are a handy little tool.

Question

Are you talking about a type of spatula which you can easily scoop up some cream or a mixture in a bowl which looks like a half circle shaped paddle without a handle, but you can grip the flat end of it for control? If so, you might be able to get them from the purveyours that sell pastry products (we sometimes get them with their name advertized) like Swiss Chalet and such, or I've seen them in Restaurant supply stores.

from what you say, it could only be either:

1) A scraper - a "D" shaped piece of plastic used by hand to scrape bowls etc,, or

2) A Econome - a smaller version of the above with a handle.

Thanks for the input, guys...it's the D-shaped one (which is called a bowl scraper in bakeries). Apparently the flat side is great for scooping things to move from point A to B as opposed to using your knife. It also semi-flexible so it's nice for moving things into storage bags, etc. I found one at a bakery supply store....59 cents!
