IMHO get a good dictionary. It would force you to memorize the correct spelling rather than have some machine correcting it for you. Consulting a dictionary is a much better learning experience.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that kind of thing listed in a catalogue somewhere. If I have the catalogue (buried in a pile of stuff to file ), I'll post the name(s). Give me a few days, and if I don't get to it, remind me.

Which edition of Food Lover's do you have? There's a 3rd edition out that probably has more terms than the 2nd.

I always keep a copy of Food Lover's Companion & Chef's Companion in my chef's office. It helps with most, but not all, of my food spelling questions.

If you can provide examples of what you're looking for specifically, we may be better able to help.

My husband participates on Chef2Chef and every now and then he types "walah" (which is, of course, supposed to be voila!) - the other chefs get a kick out of it.

As for your needs, get Larousse Gastronomique .

Why not just use something such as Microsoft Word. I often will type my posts or emails in a word document and it will highlight mispelled words as I go. I typically comes with a new pc and it is not very expensive. Still I have to go with the first reply as a basic rule of thumb, just keep a good dictionary around or you could go to:
