Thumbs up Slow Food's Field to Family, 9/16-9/19, Iowa City

The Field to Family Celebration of Local Farms and Local Food!
Seminars, Farm Tours, Benefit Dinners, Wild Food Forays and Rare Books
September 16-19, 2004 in and around Iowa City

Visit www.fieldtofamily.org for all the details!

Field to Family is a four day festival that makes learning about our connections with our local food sources fun and tasty!

Ride the hay wagon for a tour of a local orchard featuring favorite apples from yesteryear, taste the best Tapas of eight Iowa City restaurants on the Culinary Walk, or enjoy an intimate dinner with one of the Midwest’s favorite chef, Lucia Watson of Lucia’s Restaurant of Minneapolis.

Join Lucia and talented local chefs at the Iowa City Farmers’ market for a demonstration and sampling of the freshest and best of the market. Lucia will show how to use pantry products like vinegars and oils to create sensational new flavors on vegetables grown right here in Johnson County.

Gather, prepare and sample local wild foods with author and wild foods expert Teresa Marrone and naturalist Brad Friedhof at Kent Park. Learn about canning, soil building, and GMOs at the seminars at Scattergood Friends School near West Branch. They’re even roasting a homegrown organic lamb on a spit for lunch!

Scholar, gourmand, or family with children, there’s an event for everyone. Most of the activities are free; those requiring a ticket benefit worthwhile local non-profits like Table to Table and Slow Food Iowa School Garden Project.

Everyone is welcome to attend the concluding potluck Sunday, with pork BBQ by genuine experts and root beer for kids of all ages. Bring the recipe for your potluck dish prepared from local foods and we’ll include your recipe in an upcoming cookbook!

Fun for all! Be there!
