Have you looked into the two National Personal Chef Associations for answers yet? I am a member of the American Personal Chef Association (www.personalchef.com). The other is called the United States Personal Chef Association (www.uspca.com). The USPCA is much more expensive to join and the people I have talked to there are very rude, but it's a larger organization.

To answer your questions, you need liability insurance which you can find out about through either organization. I formed as S Corp w/o a lawyer but I HIGHLY recommend finding an accountant. I usually make arrangements to get to someone's house before they leave for work and I'm done and gone by the time they get home. It's usually not a problem. Some people have given me a key or the code to their garage door (just like a cleaning service really).

Good luck getting started. Check out the APCA -- they have a bulleting board system like this one for members that is worth the price of joining. You also get a web page from them. And, the have the best domain name.

That's my two cents.

Good luck.
