Default Catering to the Stars!

I always thought it would be a blast to be a cater for a big movie production. That is until we started to work with the caterer for the movie "Mr. Brooks" that is filming here in Shreveport.

I don't think the guy ever sleeps, his schedule changes in a heart beat, he is open 24 hours a day until the filming is done, and for good measure throw in a nice hot humid Louisiana summer. I mean it might be nice to meet stars like Kevin Costner, William Hurt and Demi Moore but I think I'll stick to my day job.

Trivial fact: Only 2 states film more movies than the state of Louisiana - California and New York. Hurrican Katrina damage in New Orleans caused a lot of movie productions to move to Shreveport. Mr. Brooks is our third movie this summer and second Costner movie.

A good friend of mine cooked for the Grateful Dead for years......the stories of cooking on the road are bizarre and inspirational. He subbed in last year when the cook broke a leg (?)....he said the original members are into organics and juicing, so they pull into town and he shops......
It's the sort of thing that you would want to be paid a whole lot for the energy that goes into doing it. Short term/high yield.

Movie and TV productions are a mixed bag. True it is glamorous, but not getting screwed, and getting paid what you're owed is even better than glamorous... Some productions are fantastic to work for-- a love affair on both sides, and some productions are a nightmare, ending up in small claims court.

But hey, I'm just a Canuck from Vancouver, what would I know about catering for the movie biz?....

We have had a few movies made here too. The Piano, WhaleRider, Lord of the Rings, Zena Warrior Princess. etc. I have never heard any goss. about difficulties with catering. Not that the locals would talk out, but stuff leaks in small communities, nearly impossible to keep things quiet.
