Default Cancer strikes Achatz

This is truly horrible.

Quote:

It does'nt sound like he is willing to give in to any adversity.
Sending good vibes and prayers for a complete recovery of health and wellbeing.

Not a nice thing to have to go through, but trying to look at the bright side, I got the following from the Skin Cancer Foundation:

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of skin cancer, with over 250,000 new cases per year estimated in the United States. It arises in the squamous cells that compose most of the upper layer of the skin.

Most SCCs are not serious. When identified early and treated promptly, the future is bright. However, if overlooked, they are harder to treat and can cause disfigurement. While 96 to 97 percent of SCCs are localized, the small percentage of remaining cases can spread to distant organs and become life-threatening.

I was riding the train this morning reading the paper and came across this. I was holding back tears, as a fellow Chicagoain, this was devestating to read. One of my friends worked at Trio under Chef Achatz, he was totally devestated, tears were falling. If he survives, there is still a possibility he can lose his sense of taste. My thought are with him and his crew at Alinea.

I definitely hope he pulls through. I still have hopes of at least getting to meet him, even better working under his wing.
