Default washington won't say the 'R' word,but i did

To all the chef/owners,has this recession cut down on your business yet? I noticed a drop off starting last sept. and still continuing to this day.I had my worst nov.and dec. in 7 years of being in business.I not sure when it will pick up.My question is what strategy would best bring in the customers? I am a small fine dining place, and as such i don't like twofers to bring them in.But i don't see this recession ending soon,as it did in the early 2000's.Most of the other fine dining place's in my area are now up for sale.Although i am located in a small county in the sierra foothills,we still did a good business.I would be interested in what you think.I am a steak and seafood place that also serves slow roasted prime rib,and i need some ideas to drum up some business.any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

I'm no longer a restaurant operator, but I will say that my dining-out experiences have been curtailed since I have been spending $70 to fill my gas tank, $4+ for a gallon of milk and $10 for a movie ticket.

If you don't like "2'fr's" why not run a pre fix? Offer a simple 4 or five course meal at a reasonable price. You could try to offer variations on your regular menu so as not to impact too heavy on your prep.

where are you located my parents live in the sierra foothills and looking for some good food out there. if you have a web sight to you place that would be good to look at too others might want to look at your menu to comment on prices, and what you have on there.

i know this sounds tacky for a fine dinning place but i do have a friend that needed more customers and sent out coupons to the local public with in a 2 mile radise that gave them a free appetizer and free dessert, you do loose a little money with the people coming in but the idea is to get new people in and hopefully they come back. look at the local papers and magazines maybe you can advertise there
