I'm doing preliminary research on an article about cruising and cooking in the Gulf Islands off Vancouver, B.C. I'm looking for professional yacht chefs or yacht owners who do their own gourmet cooking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Islander is from Salt Spring Island. He/she might have some connections to share with you. Last time I saw Islander he/she was posting in the gardening forum.
Hi. I'm the writer looking for yacht chefs, preferably in the Seattle or Vancouver area. I've met with the editor of the magazine and she loves the idea of me writing about cooking aboard a yacht while cruising the Gulf Islands (which I will be in September). We haven't worked out all the details, but I'm looking to interview chefs in that locale about how and what they cook. It's possible there might be some compensation involved if they would be willing to let the mag use some of their recipes. I would love to see some of the galleys they work in. I'm particularly interested in using the ingredients indigenous to that area, but could be interested in also talking with yacht chefs with lots of experience in other locales about their styles of cooking. Thanks for your interest.
Thank you Linda Smith about your recommendation to talk to Islander. I have posted a message on the gardener bulletin board. Perhaps someone might even have advice about my herb gardening, which isn't going as well as expected.
I realize that I could not be of help to you now. I worked as the Cook of a 50 foot motor yacht that cruised the Cycladic Islands of the Aegean and as the Cook of a 42 footer sailing yacht in Tahiti. That was 24 years ago.
Good luck with your article and have fun on your cruise.
