Default Cooking for Pirates

At the end of this month, I will be having a "Pirate" party. I'll be inviting some family and friends over for a pirate themed party.
I was originally thinking that I could just "Pirate" a recipe off of someone but then I decided to be nice
Do any of you have good ideas for what to make? Any non-acoholic drinks, a main coarse, and dessert? Any snacks?
All ideas are welcomed and nothing has to "look" like a pirate, just something i could make that would just match the party theme a bit.
Most of my family and my hubby's family are non drinkers which is why I ask for non-alcoholic drinks...otherwise I would have just served rum and we would have been dancing around singing "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum..."
hehe
Anyways, so shoot me some ideas! If I can make the main coarse on a Charcoal grill, that'd be even better, so if anyone has any good grilling ideas, great! But I'll take other ideas too!
Thanks for the help!

Hee hee. For about the last 15 years, my wife and I host a Beach Party here in Salt Lake in February. They often have themes or locales, and folks dress appropriately. A few years back the theme was pirates. The announcement suggested to think not only of the marauders of the high seas, but music, software and corporate pirates. The best costumes that year were a couple that arrived in nice business suits, briefcases in hand, Monopoly money falling out of their pockets and sleeves, with Enron name tags prominently displayed. That was fun!

Anyway, enough anchorless drifting. Seafood might be one approach, maybe some coconut shrimp or garlic - lemon shrimp appetizers, smoked oysters or clams or sardines with crackers and a couple choices of cheese, perhaps a big bowl of chowder with plenty of goldfish to sprinkle in. Spicy 'parrot' wings with some sort of pineapple - teriyaki type sauce. Grilled pineapple slices with a brown sugar and soy sauce glaze would work well as a side to some boneless country style pork 'ribs' done in a Jamaican jerk style, maybe some chicken legs as well.

Should be fun.

That's pretty funny!
I'm thinking of doing shish kebabs with shrimp as the main type of meat but also some chicken cubes. Possibly peppers, onions...not sure what else to add to it.
I'm still working on ideas, but I think that would be fun and not too complicated. In my house I only have a toaster oven for backing, a small portable 2 burner range, and other "specialty" appliances like rice cookers and stuff like that...so when I have to cook for a large crowd, I prefer stuff I can cook on the grill because I can make more at once since most of my appliances are small since I usually just cook for my husband and I.
I'll have to look into some of your ideas though, because they sound pretty good
This week is brain storming week, by the weekend I will narrow it down to what to serve, and then next week I will work on buying and preparing everything
I'll let you guys know what I picked out though! This is so much fun!

What about some fried plantains, calamari, and fruit salsa?

Fruit Salsa

1 large sweet onion, diced
1 jalapeno, diced
1 ripe mango, cut in 1/2" cubes
1 ripe papaya, cut in 1/2" cubes
1 can crushed pineapple with juice
1 small bunch cilantro, chopped
salt & pepper
juice of 1 lemon and 1 lime

Combine in a bowl and allow to chill overnight... delicious for dip or with grilled fish or chicken.
