Default Spaghettis Géants aux Pétales de Rose

Just had this meal at a friends home and she gave me this recipe. Sorry, it's in metric and I have no clue how it translates to American measurements!

300 G of spaghetti giant (which I take to mean really big spaghetti!)
30 G of petals of fresh pink roses
120 G of cooked ham, into 1 section
20 G of unsalted butter
2 DL of thick fresh cream
salt

In a large pot, bring approximately 4 liters of water to a boil.
Salt, then cook pasta to al dente.
Meanwhile, detach the petals from the fresh roses – preferably pink roses. Wipe them gently with a light, wet cloth. Cut them into small pieces. Reserve some of the petals and leaves for garnish.
Dice the ham.
Melt the butter in a large pot and cook the ham.
Add the fresh cream. Cook to boil then add the cut rose petals.
Lower the temperature to medium and continue to cook over medium heat until cream thickens. Stir continually.
Drain the pasta; add to cream mixture. Stir gently.
Serve.
Serves 4 Swiss size people.

Default Corrections

Thanks shel. I admit I was a bit taken aback when the meal was brought to the table and found out that the roses were to be eaten. After a few bites however, I decided it was pretty good!
My French is not very good and my friends English sometimes lacks the proper words so...after looking over the recipe again, I noticed where I made a couple of errors.
The rose petals weren't cut, they were torn. I suppose it is okay to cut them but that wasn't how they looked when she served the meal.
Then I noticed I included her wording about the ham. "Into one section" I think it should read diced or possibly one piece. Either way, the ham should be cooked prior to making the meal and diced.
If you make it, please let me know if you liked it or not. I'm interested in what others think of this dish.

Default wow this sounds intriguing

as soon as i can find some organic rose petals im going to try this one
is there any particular reason why pink rose petals are suggested?? do they have a different flavour to other colours maybe ?

I have no idea tessa. My best guess is that they probably do have a lighter flavour over darker ones. I've metally pictured darker rose petals in the dish and do think that lighter colored petals look better...except maybe on Valentines Day!
