Default Can Anyone Help Refresh The Memory Of A Childhood Treat?

I remember that when I was younger my mom used to make us a treat of some kind of peach "pie" (I don't exactly know what it's called) by mixing ground cinnamon and sugar into the peaches together with it's own juice (oh the memories that this brings-yum hehe ) and then putting this in a baking dish, topping it with some kind of delicious flour batter that would make a topping for it (you know the toppings that pies have? It was kind of like this).

This was one of my favorite childhood treats and I kind of regret now that my mom never wrote the recipe down nor did I ever think of asking her for it. She stopped making it so long ago that I have forgotten how to make it. When I ask her for recipes nowadays (like the ones she used to make when I was still young) she doesn't remember how to make them.

Does anyone know what this treat is and does anyone have a recipe for it? I wish I could help you out more in giving you more details so that you will kind of get a picture right away of what I am talking about but this is all I remember. If anyone could respond to this request and give me some recipes to try, it would be greatly appreciated, as they might help to bring back happy childhood memories!

Your description sounds like a fruit cobbler, which is like a pie but easier to make.

Here's my recipe for peach cobbler:

10 to 12 ripe peaches
1/4 c. br. sugar
2 tbsp. tapioca beads (it comes in a box called 'instant tapioca' over by the puddings in the grocery store)
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. cinnamon (optional, you could use ginger) Plain without seasoning tastes good too.

Turn your oven onto 400 degrees. Peel your peaches and remove the pits, then slice them into 3 pieces per half of peach. Mix all the ingredients together and toss with the peaches. Put that into a 9" square pan that you sprayed with Pam (for easy clean-up).

Then drizzle 2 tbsp. of melted butter over the peachs, toss abit.

Cobbler topping:

1 1/3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 c. white sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (or ginger)

Mix those dry ingredients together in a bowl. In another bowl combine all the wet ingredients I've listed below.

1/3 c. melted butter
2 eggs, well beaten
1/4 c. heavy cream

Then mix the wet ingredients all at once into the dry ingredients and stir just until they mix together (don't over mix this, it should be lumpy). Then drop spoons full of batter over your peaches so it covers the whole top of your pan. You can also sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar if you like. Bake this for about 25 minutes. To test if it's done, you can lift up some of the cobbler with a spoon and peek to see if the batter has turned into cake all the way through near the peaches. If it's still very wet and doughie cook it longer.
This always tastes great served with ice cream or whipped cream.

I also like a cobbler with a biscuit dough dropped on top. A little less sweet. 'Course, I'm a strawberry shortcake on biscuits type of gal.

Cool

Thanks for that recipe, Wendy, it sounds so similar to the one my mom used to make, except that I don't remember her using tapioca beads in the recipe. You have brought back some happy memories of my childhood by just posting your recipe here. I appreciate your doing that! I will try your recipe soon and post my reviews here.
