Default fiddlehead fern...

ive been seeing fiddlehead ferns in abundance lately... so ive been tempted to do something with them, however ive never cooked with a fiddlehead fern before let alone served it... so i am curious if anyone here has any experience with them?

fiddleheads are a marvelous but extremely seasonal thing. never bought them, I pick them straight from the wild.

steamed, sauted, marinated, salad addition - many many uses. also many recipes/ideas on the web - treat them like asparagus tips, you'll be happy.

I missed the crop of fiddlehead ferns this year in my garden- too busy doing my paying job As Dillbert says treat them like asparagus, steam/ poach, lots of butter, pepper, squeeze of lemon, or maybe some hollandaise sauce, poached egg, they come up a treat. Nice appetiser, or serve with fish, or anything you like to serve asparagus with.

Fiddleheads are the best. We generally just steam them but they can be pickled as well. If you were to pickle them the same recipe for "Dilly Beans" ( pickled green bean) could be used . The make a nice addition to salads too.

saute in garlic, butter, some lemon juice. serve it with a nice halibut and a little beurre blanc.. So good
