No Smile Stuffed cabbage

Wondered if any of you might have the definitive stuffed cabbage recipe? Sweet and sour of course, but interesting...I've made it simply with cranberries, tomatoes, lemon and brown sugar, etc. and meat/rice filling or with a cremini mushroom/rice filling. I've seen others, but this Catholic girl needs help...!

You'll find as many recipes as you will people! This is one of those dishes which is part of just about every culture (some sort of leaf, stuffed). My mom's version used tomato sauce, lemon juice and - are you ready for this? - a jar of grape jelly for the sauce. I think she threw in some brown sugar, too. Hmmmm.... maybe I'll ask her for the recipe. Now you've got me hungry for it!

The current issue of Cook's Illustrated has an article on stuffed peppers. Last night I tried one that uses lamb, feta, onions, tomatoes, garlic, fresh ginger, cardamom, cumin & cinnamon, I was very tasty! It may be on the savory side of what you're looking for but while we were eating we decided that you could use the stuffing in anything including cabbage. Let me know if you would like the details.

Thank you both for your replies. I'll check out the Cook's Illustrated. What frustrates me is that a client I used to work for gave me her aunt's recipe for stuffed cabbage which was supposed to be fabulous (!!?) and when I made it according to the recipe, she said something was missing. She said she wouldn't put it past her aunt to purposely leave something out. I hate it when people do that! I probably would end up changing the recipe anyway, but it's the principle.
