Post I dined at Alain Ducasse at the Essex House (NY)

I just wanted you all to know that purplemarlin and I, and our wives were fortunate enough to dine at Alain Ducasse in New York City last week. In only its second week we all had the best meals of our lives. Everything from the summer vegetable napolean, to the foie gras poached in a peppered bouillen, to the seaweed steamed halibut, to the $80.00 steak entree. Everything was awesome -- and so was the bill -- $1300.00 for the four of us. We are not rich - but this was worth it.

You know, I was waiting to hear from you about how the meal went. $1,300??? Wow, but I bet it was indeed worth every penny. Kind of reminds me of the time I payed big bucks to see Michael Jordan play basketball. The game was awesome and I enjoyed every penny of it. Would you be interested in doing are review of the restaurant and reporting your dining experience for posting in the ChefTalk restaurant reviews section? I think everyone would really enjoy it. (Seeing as how most of us will never be able to enjoy a dinner at Alain Ducasses' place.)

I had the the pleasure to dine with Johnny thehat at Ducasse, let me tell you guys, the flavors were brilliant, the food had tons of fireworks going off in your mouth, some of the dishes were the best that i ever tasted. The desserts were even better, simply the best desserts, with hot and cold textures playing a big part of it.Don't forget its only money, and it was money well spent.

Question

Billy and Johnny,
Did you guys read the NYTimes article on the restaurant? Ishtar the restaruant, is it a big budget over the top not quite good enough to impress a New York crowd used to great food kind of place?
I have heard semi-hot and very-cold reviews, any comments? Has it stood out in your minds as the best ever?
I guess if I'm going to drop a mortgage payment on a meal, I want to know, is it really that great?

Thanks.
