Hi,

You will find some reviews here

and here

For a taste of the food from the UK, the book is excellent and should be thrilling for a fellow chef!

The French Laundry Cookbook by Thomas Kellerman is available, although it costs serious money. Some inspirational stuff in it.
El Bulli in Spain has been compared to The Fat Duck in Bray (England), a place where cooking, particularly the use of ingredients, has been taken to new levels.

half.com has the French Laundry (Keller) cookbook for $38.00, probably comes from Jessica's Biscuits, most cookbooks I've ordered from half have come from there.

Thanks SeattleDeb, but the shipping costs from the US add a whole bunch to the cost of buying it in the UK.

Ate at the Fat Duck a couple of weeks ago - wonderful. Joyce Molyneux is no longer at the Carved Angel and a visit last year showed how essential she was to the place. Great fan of Simon Hopkinson, and I like Alastair Little's style - would like to go on one of his Italian classes, actually met him on Masterchef. Needless to say I have books by all three (Heston's will be out later - great guy, spoke with him for 20 minutes or so at the end of service)

Yawn

Ah, Richard Corrigan at Lindsay House, he was on the TV last night. Smart guy. Don't tend to eat in London much, we tend to go to places we can stay over, either at the restaurant or nearby. In a couple of weeks we're going up to the Merchant House (Sean Hill) in Ludlow and then by strange coincidence a little later we're going to Gidleigh Park in Devon where Sean made his name. Last place I went to in London was The Broadway in Ealing (surprisingly good) and Tante Claire for lunch - stylish. Just a travelling gastronome! So where in Sussex are you?

Staying at Dinham Hall. Lots of great restaurants in Ludlow, but only have one night. Going to the Merchant House because my son went there and was almost too embarrassed to say that the rack of lamb he had there was better than mine. This I gotta see. Going to Gidleigh for lunch (cheaper!) simply because it is only a couple of miles from where we are staying with friends - Penzance is a little far for lunch!

I ate recently at the French Laundry in Napa Valley and can tell you it was possibly the most accomplished and impressive restaurant meal I have ever had. I ate with two other chefs..We had EACH of us, a 21 course tasting menu (different for each). I know of no other restaurant that comes close to the level of perfectionism, the sheer ambition of the French Laundry--absolutely extraordinary. My friends at the table a 3 star NYT chef and 4 star NYT chef were both equally blown away. There's noone else out there like Keller ..ANTHONY BOURDAIN
