Post I get a vacation???!

I'm getting out of here and to New Orleans for a cool 4 days the 2nd week of January (my first time gone since we opened the B&B! After Holiday parties, weddings, New Years and oh yeah, hosting a conference the 1st week of Jan I think I'm gonna need it!) Traded nights w/a place in NO -- and of course - I want to eat my way through NO? Where should I absolutely go? (On my previous whirlwind trip we went to Emeril's, Acme Oyster Bar, Commander's Palace and some really cool dive that I will have to try and find again...).

Anything I should see this time around?

Thanks-

lynne

Antoines, Arnauds, Gallatoires, Corrine Dunbars (most tourists don't know about this one), Brennans, Court of Two Sisters.

Commander's Palace is one of my favorites.

Also must do:

Have a Sazerac at the Sazerac Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel.

I defer to Shroomgirl when it comes to Nawlins. My experience goes way back to the 60's, so I don't know all the new places and don't know if any of the old ones have changed or gone out of business.

Made some reservations and my mouth is watering -- I can't wait!

Thought it was funny. Y'all reccomended Uglesich's and then it appeared in Saveur magazine as the "Finest Funky Restaurant in all of New Orleans!" Also featured the recipe for Shrimp Uggie.

Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans?

My home. My heart.

I was born there and grew up there and it is my soul. And my kitchen. Daddy is Cajun -- family landed there in the 1700's and he's the first generation to live in the city. This thread is wonderful.
Sadly, Corrine Dunbar's is closed but I still have some of the recipes -- oysters and artichokes are a perfect pairing!
I agree that Mother's on Poydras is a must -- have the poboy with "debris", the crunchy outside of the roast beef.
Uglesich is terrific as is Casamentos. Both are "dives" but that is where the real New Orleans food is.
Commander's is an interesting problem. Many foodies go and are disappointed because they expect cutting edge cuisine but the place is totally tradional. There may be no better gumbo ya-ya. I love the place but I am a local. Serious food history and tradition. If you want trendy, there are lots of other places. Just don't trash Commander's because it doesn't fulfill your fantasy.
Folse is beloved and I understand his restaurant is great but I have never eaten there. Interesting drive up the River Road and I hear it's worth the trip.
I go home every few months now because my parents are in their 80's and need a bit of TLC. I also cook and fill their freezer while I'm there. I wish we could eat out more but it doesn't happen. Mostly I'm so happy to still have them that I am willing to forgo the restaurant experience. We do however go EVERY day to Morning Call for coffee and beignets.
Please let me know of new, old, interesting places to go. I love my city and I am always happy to hear that others enjoy it too.

Over Thanksgiving I went to Mother's at 6am and picked up a mess of Ham bones and bits...freezer is stocked for red beans
I order Stansels rice...Now to cook Mardi Gras foods after 12th night.
hmmmmmmm there is something special about New Orleans that just makes my heart sing.

Weather it's traditional or New New Orleans, it's a fun place to eat and explore.

Tried to go to Peristyle while I was down there and they were closed for the holiday
On the side of the French Quarter and supposedly wonderful.

Margaret maybe you would remember Busters.
Did you make it down to Burgundy?
