One of the things we quickly learned in the hotels and suchlike, was to hang on to your cutlery. They don't change it between courses. I am talking about europe. Spain was the most enchanting of all. Our meals were given on a small oval lipped tray. The s&p were on it, as was our cutlery. (flatware). The plates were taken, but not the flatware. Unless they were left on the plate. I had read about this in the tourist manuel, so was more aware than some of my fellow travellers. Shared knives and forks went all around our table. We tucked in with the Phillipino group. They took one meal to sort the matter. Not so the others, they remained permanently confused, by this small circumstance.
