Default Santa Fe, Harry's Roadhouse

What a gem! Sunday night dinner was a trout stuffed with cornbread dressing, cilantro pesto served with new potatoes and broccoli. $10

lots of housemade pies, fruit and cream. Maccaroon ice cream, white choc banana pie, blueberry pie, coconut cream, brownies, cookies, etc....

Burgers, pizza, New Mexican, lamb stew with posole and veg. It's on the outskirts of town and frequented by the natives. I'd go back next visit.

Shroom...
I am sorry I haven't replied until now...

I worked at Harry's in 1994-1995. It was right around the time when Money magazine named it one of the best values in dining in the west. Wow, did we get busy. A lot of people would drive right not knowing how good the food was, based on the appearence. Not much to look at, but really good, honest food.

I was the dinner cook back then. Our big dishes were smoked trout with chipotles, roasted 1/2 chicken, chicken 'n dumplings (yeah, my east-coast influence on the menu!)

Shroomgirl !

Had I only known you were in town... I'd have gotten the check.

There are so many terrific places in Santa Fe but Harry's RoadHouse stands out for non-pretentious food done well, served well. A really professional "spot" loved by people who live here and tons of visitors, too.

Where else did you eat while in our neighborhood ?

I'm a Mudu Noodles fan, as well as the Equadorian lunch place in the mall....

My mom lives in Santa Fe......I love the farmer's market, it's a gem.
I'm intrigued by the chicken guy raising various varieties of birds and the raspberry jam is in my larder....I shoot alot of photos and pick up chilis (love the fun spainish ones), chili powder, odds and ends that are difficult to find or have packaging Mo. farmers could copy.

this past time we had tea (lunch)at Ice farm about 45 minutes toward Taos, 5 course food from their small organic farm. It was a treat.
They can seat around 20. Let's see if I can remember the menu
1) juice to toast and an asst of tea
herb dip, cream cheese with pepper jelly, deviled eggs, sorrel wrapped cheese

2) soup (?) tiny biscuit with wild plum jam and zucchini bread

3) sorbet, strawberry, grape and lemon....first two from their produce

4) sandwich plate.....chicken salad, cuke, radish, (?)

5) ice cream (?)

What stood out were their baked goods and presentation was exceptional.....it was so homey professionally done. Tiny flowers decorated the plates.....great fun.

We had lunch downtown at Balene, best BLT ever! and that's saying alot. The bread held together, tomatoes were heirloom, bacon was crisp and tender and plentiful, slices of avacado.....yum.
homemade rootbeer float...needed alittle help but was interesting.
Apparently the new chef is buying some local and his sous did a quantity of time at El Bulli....sci-fi meets local......

My mom talked of going to Geronimo.....didn't get there. I stayed pretty low profile this last visit, hung out and read mostly. Her last house had incredible kitchens, so I cooked local for most of the visit.

One of the top 5 bakeries I've been to is Sage...they are phenominal. croissants and apple tarts are trully exceptional, not to mention the breads.

I found the co-op grocery, that was interesting. They carry Strauss butter, which is difficult to access here....
