I thought I'd start a thread with some of my favourite restaurants - just to prove that Scotland has more to offer than haggis or deep fried Mars Bars (I've got a recipe if anyone's interested!)

Ths is one of my most favourite restaurants for posh dining. The surroundings are amazing - it is situated on the Lawnmarket, just before you enter the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. It must have one of the most amazing settings in the world.

The Oran Mor is more than a restaurant, it has bars, function rooms and is a venue for various cultural events in Glasgow. Well worth a visit.

I've got all of Lady Claire MacDonald's books. Her style of cooking suits my tastes. She is the wife of the Chief of Clan MacDonald, and travels widely to publicise the very best of Scots ingredients.

She runs cookery demos at the hotel, too.

Ishbel, this list will be on our list of places to eat when we take our UK tour in a year or two. Thank you so much for pointing us to them! I visited the woolen mill at Callendar many, many years ago and want to see that countryside again. The Roman Camp looks lovely.

There's another fairly new-ish place in Callender, it's called Calllender Meadows - a small hotel with a great restaurant. Husband and wife team who were previously at Gleneagles Hotel. Well worth a visit - and value for money, too

A change of style - this pub, one of the oldest in Scotland, does quite good pub food and is a great place to stop if you decide to walk to the top of Edinburgh's extinct volcano - Arthur's Seat!

And yes, it does mean The Sheep's Head!
