| Who says you have to be in Memphis, the Carolinas or Texas for great BBQ? Great Northern BBQ opened last fall in Waukesha, WI and today they got a well-deserved, great review from the Milwaukee paper's finniky food writer. OnWisconsin Live Dining: Great Northern BBQ Co.

| Sounds good. It also sounds like he borrowed a page from Peace, Love and Barbecue (Barnes*&*Noble.com - Books: Peace, Love, and Barbecue, by Mike Mills, Paperback ) for the barbecue nachos. Definitely a good read with some interesting barbecue variations such as BBQ spaghetti and the smoked hot wings with a 50/50 bbq sauce and ranch dressing dip. The place in SLC that gets all the positive press is the worst of the local barbecue places in my opinion. Seems you might be having better luck with your reviewers. Phil |

| Mezzaluna, Thanks for posting this. Having just gotten to know the owner Mike quite well over the last couple weeks, and having seen up close how he puts his heart and soul into the restaurant, I was glad to see him get this great review. Let's hope people in the Metro Milwaukee area realize that there's more to BBQ than what's offered at Famous Dave's, Chili's, and The Charcoal Grill. They all have their place, but Great Northern is what BBQ should be about. My opinion, of course. My good friend, Shawn (he has posted here as BBQHopeful) is part of a competition BBQ team with Mike, and is the owner of the traveling smoker rig they use for competition. We put the rig to use at Smokey's Musky Shop in Pewaukee on Friday, 5/4 to feed about 60 fishermen prior to the opening of Musky season on 5/5. It was a great success and we couldn't have done it without the help of Mike from Great Northern. He's a great guy serving authentic slow smoked BBQ right here in cheeseland. Definitely worth a try if anyone is in the area. There are not enough of these affordable restaurants and they deserve the support of those that care about quality food. Kevin Slather and Rub. |
