| My friend and I went to check out some new place last night in our neighborhood. We go and get a drink first and check out the menu and decide if we want to visit again based on what we see. I asked the VERY young bartender for a gin and tonic;I'm sitting there watching her scramble about and she comes up to me and says "I know this is going to sound odd,but what is tonic?" Oy,vey........

Considering the fact that, nowadays, it isn't a drink if it doesn't end in "martini" I'm not surprised that a straight-forward drink order confused the barkeep.

Tournant, You think that's bad. Try telling a prep cook that you need him to make some honey butter (used for basting rolls, not the whipped type) on the fly and he looks back at you and asks..... "What are the ingredients?" ![]() ![]() Didn't even have a recipe for this it was so simple. Made me affraid to ask for a glass of ice water from him. ![]() Last edited by oldschool1982; 06-04-2007 at 03:16 PM. Reason: missing letter (spelling stupidity)

I asked for a Wild Turkey at a well established bar (having spotted it on the shelf) only to get "sure, what's in it?"

Hello, The industry is 90 percent run on teenagers who don't have any knowledge or skills. Giving the industry a bad image which is a shame the cooking industry I was told is at the bottom of the trades as far as wages and benefits. Which is a shame...so they keep losing skillful people when is it going to stop! David in Edmonton Former cooking graduate

now now you could have fun with the "wild turkey" questioner.....straight faced come up with some bizarre combo/techniques, then say, "or you could just pour it out of that bottle".....just too much fun.

Hey, I didn't post a link. But I'll retry anyway---reminds me of a joke: A brunette, a redhead and a blonde walk into a bar. The brunette asks for a G&T. The bartender says, "What's that?" The brunette says, "It's a gin and tonic." Oh, says the bartender, I can make that. The redhead asks for an R&C. The barkeep says, "What's that?" She replies that it's a rum and coke. Oh, I can make that, says the bartender. The blonde asks for a 15. "What's that?," asks the bartender. The blonde replies, "It's a Seven and Seven."
