Oldschool, here are a couple of outta the way places most won't find but I am pretty sure you will enjoy...iffn ya looking for non-table cloth dining
Here are a couple of Jewels of the crown for the Queen City. BBQ KING 2900 Wilkinson Blvd (hwy 74 west of the city) 704-399-8344
Take a step back in time with this CURB SERVICE Q joint..savor the "oldschool" ways things used to be!
Dont forget to try the Onion Rings. Note to Oldschool, remember keep the doors locked not the best neighborhood. The Coffee Cup 914 Clarkson 704-375-8855 (call ahead for hrs)
This place is an institution, been there since the 40's. Great soul food, (just a little northwest of downtown)is a must for downhome breakfasts and lunches in the city. I still think of the waffles and chicken, Dont dress to impress for this place, but you might just be dining next to some of the city's power brokers.
If you should end up "uptown" then you might want to try this place a lil higher class (read table cloth) dining.. MIMOSA GRILL, First Union Plaza, 327 S. Tryon St.; (704) 343-0700. If you find yourself in Uptown Chlt...for lunch try this place...fine dining. The first two are not far from Mooresville, even though they are in/near the city. Coffee cup is not far off interstate 77. Both the Coffee Cup and BBQ King are places most dont know about... I am sure you can find your way on the more tradional places... If ya like racing you will be in the heart of it..check out one of the race shops, they usually allow visitors.
OH one more MIDTOWN SUNDRIES... On the lake, fun place (or used to be) pretty good food, great view. NOTE: Been several yrs since I lived in Charlotte, in "another life" I was in the real estate business there. Last time I was there the city amazed me...growth has been exponential..Better to call these places to confirm hrs of operation etc.
Hope this helps Have fun.
