La brasserie Du Grand-Chêne I've realized that I haven't mentioned much about resturants here in Lausanne Switzerland other than the Chalet Suisse so let me rectify that. Had the pleasure of eating at La brasserie Du Grand-Chêne located in the Lausanne Palace & Spa here in Lausanne recently. (http://www.lausanne-palace.ch/fr/index2.php) For my appetizer I had the Soupe à l'oignon gratinée (onion soup au gratin) which I enjoyed. I did sample the Escalope de foie gras poêlée, pommes et raisins (a pan-seared foie gras with apples and grapes) which was also very good. Not being a big lover of anything from the water, I passed on trying my other dinner companions choice of Tartare de thon au gingembre et citron vert (ginger and lime tartare of fresh tuna). She enjoyed it but I am not able to comment on it. Fish...ugh! My main course was the Filet de boeuf grillé, sauce au poivre vert ou béarnaise, gratin de pommes de terre ou pommes frites. All that to say a grilled fillet of beef with a choice of green peppercorn or bearnaise sauce (had the green peppercorn) potatoes au gratin or fries (potatoes au gratin for me). One of my dinner companions had the Gigot d'agneau rôti aux herbes, haricots coco mijotés à la tommate, salade de mesclun (roasted leg of lamb with herbs, coco bean and tomato stew with mesclun salad) which looked and smelled fantastic! The fish eater had Crevettes bord au court bouillon, sauce aïoli (Boiled prawns with garlic aïoli...whatever that is) which she proclaimed as excellent...again...fish food...ugh. For dessert we ordered the Fondue au chocolat, brochette de fruits frais (chocolate fondue with fresh fruit on skewers), Tarte des demoiselles Tatin, et sa glace vanille (Upside down apple pie with vanilla ice cream) and Tiramisu. We all shared our desserts and I have to say they were all great...and with no seafood!! |
