Default What did you do for Valentine's Day?

OK I know it, you worked, so did I, and we were fully booked and mad busy. But, we close on Mondays so I took my wife on a lunch date a week ago to a local restaurant called Chapter One it has a michelin star and is fantastic. They advertise excellent food at affordable prices which basically means we are among the best in the country but because we are in the suburbs we cannot charge £70.00 for a main course and get away with it! Two course lunch for £13.50 can't be bad can it? So there we were with a lovely Chablis ordering our food. My wife ordered salmon fillet with new potatoes and spinach and I ordered sea breem which had run out, I was offered halibut with puy lentils and pancetta which was delicious but sooo tiny. It was only for the fact that I was in a nice restaurant that I made it last about seven minutes otherwise I could have demolised it in two mouthfuls. My wife being of Irish descent enjoyed her salmon but said mine was better (she says all the right things, bless her) We decided to go a la carte for dessert as I was still hungry and she loves their hot chocolate fondant with Tahitian vanilla pod ice cream and warm white chocolate sauce which I can vouch for, it is superb. I went for the cheese plate and trusted them to select for me... and this is the point of my post. This had to be the best plate of cheese I have ever had in my life, I could not name any of the cheeses for you but every mouthful was a delight. Unctuous and creamy, acidic and tart, there was rosemary, walnuts, chutney, oat cakes and so on. I never thought that a plate of cheese could be so wonderful, the aromas and textures combined perfectly. I am now a converted cheese addict and put this down as one of my best dining experiences.

My valentine's day started with work, and ended with spending the evening beside my wife in her hospital bed. We plan to have a small celebration when she is better. Not an ideal situation but you make do the best you can, I guess.

I did a private 6 course v-day dessert thing at work after closing time for a selected group of people. When I got home my gf and I finished an open bottle of ice wine that I paired with one of the courses then I drank one of the remaining raspberry lambics that was paired with another of the courses and that was about the extent of it. Don't I live the exciting life?

I cooked dinner here at home for my family of four......just like any other night. lol I did attempt some white chocolate truffles using some ingredients I had at home. I guess the recipe was wrong because I never did get a consistency I could actually roll into a ball. I think that recipe would make a fantastic brownie frosting. lol

On valentine's day I treated my girlfriend to a lunch date to a fine restaurant in the mall. After I treated her to a movie. I had a lot of fun that day.
