Question I'd appreciate restaurant suggestions in RENO...

We're going at the end of the week to visit our son in Reno for 10-12 days and would like to have some knowledgeable suggestions for good or unusual places around town. We'll have his eight-year old son with us also.

Not looking for the fanciest places in town, just good food, well-executed local specialties, and the like. (I started to write well-done local... but decided that might go off in the wrong direction.)

Thanks in advance.

Mike

The Basque restaurants in the area are a good bet for families. Louie's Basque Corner has been around for a long time. It's been a while since I've been there. There's another place - Sante Fe I believe - that's pretty good. In any case, the Basque restaurants offer good value and convivial atmosphere.

If you're going to be in the area a while, you might consider a drive down to Gardnerville to visit J.T.'s Basque place. I hear it's pretty good - long family style tables so typical of the older Basque places.

When I'm in that area I always try to hit the Great Basin Brewery, which I think is far enough east to be in Sparks rather than Reno - is it Victorian Square or Village or ?? But with the 8 year old, that might not be an option.

Thanks for the suggestion. For the 8 year old, it's not a problem... we'll just tell the little bastard to shut up and drink his beer
