Default New Orleans Picks

First night, walked into the Bourbon House. Fresh oyster bar, big po-boy sandwiches, I had the catfish platter that was a little bit on the salty side but it was a very good meal, nice big portions, decent price, typical service I've come to expect from a New Orleans restaurant (meaning 2-3 servants per table).

Gumbo Shop, loved this place since my first Nawlins visit in 2004 and when I found out the Gumbo Shop was still around, I jumped. I couldn't picture hitting New Orleans without at least having gumbo so where better then the Gumbo Shop. Also had their special of the day, pan fried soft shell crab on top of linguine and cajun shrimp cream sauce.

A new discovery on this trip. Staying at the Pelham hotel with a newly opened Mexican restaurant Suave. A 60-80 seat place plus another 20 or so at the bar with some of the best freaking fajitas I've had. Also loved their Mayan Pulled Pork, their fresh salsa and guacamole.

Can't afford the Commander's Palace so I hit Palace Cafe instead plus it was closer to my hotel. Very nice, old school, beautiful place. I had played it safe ordering their St. Charles Pasta (penne, shrimp, andouille, cream sauce) but I ordered their Banana Fosters made table side...seriously, who does that anymore but I had to see it.

Of course, Cafe Du Monde had to be done. Already had it 3x on my trip and it's only been 2 days with still another half a day left before boarding the ship...going on a 12 day cruise.

I know I'm a little late, but next time try Dominique's. Chef Dominique Macquet does a great job. Nice facility- great service.
