Default newbie intro

I've been visiting this site for a while and finally decided to join in. I am from the South Bay area and thinking about enrolling in a culinary school some time next year.

Welcome to Chef Talk, Yasmin. Please tell us a bit more about yourself. Are you changing careers? Have you been working in a culinary job? How did you get interested in cooking? What keeps you busy outside of work?

I assure you I'm not being nosy; just trying to get some context for your questions. We're glad you found us, and look forward to your posts.

After being a full time home maker for the past 17 years I am now a forty something and ready to start on a career. Cooking has always been my passion and about 4 years ago I started exploring the idea of enrolling in a culinary school. Finally the time is right. After school, I do hope to work in the field for a few years and then look into catering and event planning as a business.

You're taking life by the horns, Yasmin! Be sure to read the culinary students' forums, and stop in at the main Chef Talk page for some great articles. We have had conversations about schools and career changes on this board in earlier threads. Use the search function to locate these discussions.

Enjoy your exploration!
