Hello Ladyehawk and welcome to Chef Talk. I'm sure you'll find inspiration to prepare wonderful, healthful dishes for you and your son. Please feel free to explore the recipes (whether in the current discussions or through using our search feature), but don't miss the cooking articles, cookbook reviews, photo gallery and all the great forums! While this community is not dedicated to any particular cooking style, you're sure to find plenty to kick up your menus and give you some great ideas.

I hope you and your son both explore Chef Talk and enjoy all there is here. You can feel comfortable allowing your son to visit; we keep an eagle eye on things and are committee to making this community enjoyable to everyone. (I'm a retired middle school teacher myself and have a reputation to protect. )

We hope you both visit and participate often!

Wasted Hi!

I am new to Chef talk and found the site as I was looking for information about different wall ovens. I am an avid baker and feed lots of people each week which means that I do cook everyday! I have 4 kids with only one left at home. Glad to be here.

Mezzaluna, You said in a post that you have a GE convection oven that you like. Can you do multiple trays of cookies and have them all come out the same on convect or do you need to rotate trays part way through?

Default hi ladyehawk

welcome to the forum.
Got 3 boys aged from 14 - 30 Kept the low fat theme up-beat by using wraps. They're a great way of introducing salads/veggies/unusual fillings they might not normally try.
Also soup. To encourage mine to eat healthy vegetable soup i added a pinch of turmeric and called it golden veg - Worked a treat.
Best thing overall i found was NOT to tell them it was healthy, it just put them off.
By the way, after years of dieting i'm now very anti diets. Good luck with weight watchers, I know they have a great reputation. But if you only eat when your body tells you it's hungry and stop eating when your full it's a fool proof way of shedding the pounds. It may not sound so good to you but I've lost 1 1/2 stone since March that way, eating exactly what i want and i'm well pleased.I hear exercise helps too- working up to that bit. Signed up for the gym 6 weeks ago, been twice
All the best

I'm not a pro, just like to cook, and I'd say you have hit the best spot on the planet for suggestions, help, and/or recommendations. This is a fun site! (As long as you stay out of the pro forums--they're pretty intolerant there).

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've only just found this site while browsing today. I really haven't had a chance to explore.

Bughut, where in the UK are you from? I have and aunt in England and and aunt in Ireland.

I used to like to cook, but lately it's been the same old, same old.
I'm trying to find healthy dishes that my whole family can enjoy.

I want to have fun in the kitchen again.

I'm from Dundee, Scotland. To give you an idea of location, we're 20miles across the river Tay from St Andrews and 60 miles north of Edinburgh.
Where are you from?
My 14year old tends to put a bit of weight on quite quickly, and thankfully loses it again just as quick. To encourage him to try healthy eating i let him re- do dishes he's made in home-ec at school. He hates the class but loves to cook it at home, adapting it to be healthy. it can be fun and makes him feel very proud. He even has to present the meal chef style.
Sometimes I just cant be bothered, and those are the days my son will do his "Italian pasta" It's a very basic tomato and veg sauce and it's lovely, healthy (if i can get to the grated cheddar before he does) and it's his recipe.
My older boys are chefs too.
I'm sure you'll enjoy the site Ladyehawk.
All the best

Proud mum

Hello Yellowdogs- welcome to Chef Talk.

I've only recently begun expanding my baking repertoire. I'm still rotating pans halfway through baking time (which I adjust downward as well as the temperature when I have the oven in convection mode). As I get to know the oven better and experiment with more recipes, I'll know more.

Stay tuned to the baking forums for more information. It's a better place to discuss this topic than here in the Welcome Forum, which has another function.

We hope you enjoy the site and participating in the community.

Welcome!
Mezzaluna
