Default Newbie alert!

Hi,

I'm new here. I've cooked for others on and off most of my adult life. I currently work in agriculture. I'm nearing retirement from the job that pays the bills.

Weekends, I'm one of the lead cooks for our free community meal. On Saturday, I can get into the kitchen at 8:30am. I need to have breakfast for 120 ready for service at 10am; be cleaned up and outta there by noon. We have volunteer help - some good, some bad. I never know if the community pantry has what I asked for or not - I may be planning bacon and eggs and have to switch to biscuits and gravy at the last minute! Flexibility is the key!

I'm hoping to step up my participation in reducing hunger when I retire. Right now, I'm looking for ideas to keep breakfast from becoming boring!

Thank you for the intro, Philomath. I'm sure your volunteer cooking very fulfilling for you and a critical service for many. I used to make soup 15 gallons at a time for a community meal, but not on any regular basis, so I have an inkling of the payback. Your commitment is admirable.

We hope you enjoy being part of this community too! Besides participating in the forums, we hope you have a look at the cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes and the photo gallery.

See you- often! Welcome,
Mezzaluna
