Default Howdy

Hello from Texas. My name is Matt (well Matthew to be exact) I am 22 and from the lone star state. As an nerd and forum junkie I figured this was the place to start.

Cooking has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. My mom is a great cook and from an early age showed me that even manly men cook. I never really loved food till I met my wife. She showed me that food is something to be enjoyed and not just fuel. Of course I have gained about 30 pounds since I got married but I am (slowly) working it off.

Anyways, even more that eating I enjoy cooking. I love the pleased look on my wife's face when I serve her a good dish. My mother is my number 2 critic. She has been lucky enough to travel around the world sampling all kinds of cuisine.

Gardening has got to be my second passion. I love to grow my own food. Right now I am in the process of building my backyard into what I want it to be so I am confined to my indoor hydroponic system (aerogarden) I also dabble in homebrewing my own beer and my wife and I both love wine.

As far as my style goes I am all over the map. Right now I have an Iranian chicken dish marinading in the fridge and I am thinking of doing some arroz con pollo the next day. I am all over the map when it comes to style. The only thing I am really not good at is plating the dish.


ETA: My wife and I are also HUGE food network people.

Matt, we're happy to welcome you to Chef Talk. I'm sure you're going to make this a regular stop during your day. Many of us are home cooks (myself included) who learned from home cooks who came before us. You are fortunate to have your mom as a resource! Make sure to record the dishes she makes that you love. I say this as someone whose mom is reaching age 86....

I have already posted a recipe and a comment about gardening. I do think this will be a regular stop on my daily web patrol.
