| Hey, I'm Sarah, a high school senior. I've been homeschooled my whole life and have never been in any type of school. All of my culinary experience has been self-taught and at home so far. I'm paying for my first culinary class this semester at a nearly community college and, if I like it, I plan to pursue a degree at a community college further away that has a way-better program (GRCC or Grand Rapids Community College). I joined this forum with a few questions... not sure if I should ask them here or not. I guess I'll try to find a better topic to post them under. One, however, concerns the culinary student blog. I've always been interested in writing and was hoping to start a blog here anyway... My question is, does it count if I blog throughout this semester as I take my class at the nearby cc and then slow down or stop through the summer before I actually start pursuing my degree? -Sarah |

| Hello Sarah and welcome! You have a great adventure to look forward to, going to culinary school. Have a look at the forum for culinary students and you'll hear an earful! Our search tool will make exploring easier too.Are you more interested in pastry and baking or in the savory side of the kitchen? Are there particular ingredients or dishes you like working with? As for the blog: I think you can go ahead and start your blog.... it's your choice. It'll be there waiting for you as things develop. We hope you visit often and participate when you can. This is a friendly community of food lovers (both home cooks like me and professionals), and we welcome your being part of it. Regards, Mezzaluna

| I suppose I have leaned toward the baking/pastry side of cooking so far, but I wouldn't say that I prefer it. Indeed, I wouldn't turn down the chance to cook anything at all! As far as ingredients go, I absolutely love citris! My mom even got me a microplane for Christmas this year which makes zesting SO much easier! Thanks for replying! -Sarah |

| I love my microplane, too. I also invested in a citrus juicer because I make lemon, lime and orange a key ingredient in marinades for grilling. I hope you take some time to have a look at the photo gallery, as you'll see exquisite work from our pastry chef members.
