Default New here but not to cooking

Hi, up until yesterday I didn't know there were forums on cooking and I found this one while looking for cookbooks. I have been cooking for over 40 years having learned in 4-H the basics from some of the best cooks in northern Wisconsin. I just like to cook and I actually get excited when I find a recipe I can't wait to try.

Welcome to Chef Talk, Shandarpat. I should say, hello from one "cheesehead" to another. We're glad to welcome you here. This is a great place to learn from professionals and from other home cooks (like you and me) and to have a bit of fun as well.

Explore the board and discover the cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes and the photo gallery. We have a search tool to help you wade through it all.

What are the dishes you most enjoy cooking? What did you learn from your mentors? We hope you share!

Regards,
Mezzaluna

Hi and thank you for the welcome!!

I learned the basics of cooking and baking from the ladies who taught our 4-H classes. They taught us not only "how" to cook but the "why". We actually learned what the ingredients were and what they did. I have an understanding which has helped me to be a good cook, I'm not bragging and I don't have that talent that my son has. He throws food around and it comes out great, every time.

I love to make chicken dishes and I love to make pies. I'm not a beef eater, no beef. I'm okay with fish but concerned about the environment they come from.

So how's that for a start?

Hi Shandarpat,
Welcome to the forum.
Like you, I like to know the why's. But like your son I enjoy the instinctive knowledge that what you threw together will work.
I'm sure you'll enjoy this site, as there's a such a mix of tastes, cuisines and ideas.
