Hello Momcook! We're glad you found us and hope you'll enjoy participating in the community. Have a look around the forums and also the cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes and the photo gallery. The search tool can help you sort through the forum topics.

I see by your profile that you're a teacher; I retired in '05 after 30 years. I split my career between orthopedically impaired students and being a reading specialist, with a year of working at a staff development center for teachers. What's your field? Do you include baking and cooking in your teaching?

Welcome!

Hi Mezzaluna,
I work at an elementary school that is an inclusive education site, so we have all types of special education students. My area is working with English Language Learners. I would love to include cooking, but I do not get the opportunity very oftern. However, I have done cooking classes for my daughters' classes, which were very enjoyable. I also do a music program for k-3 grade classes at the school.
Thank you for the welcome!

Momcook, I've worked with ELL students too. My middle school had too sparse a population to merit a teacher, so the reading program filled the bill. I spent the first nine years of my career in an elementary school. I taught orthopedically impaired kids in a wing attached to the school, and we mainstreamed them in such a way that they had great classroom support. We had a PT, OT and speech department as well. The school was light years ahead of others but since then, in the name of inclusion, it's been completely dispersed. That's the point at which I switched to reading.

We hope you enjoy Chef Talk! Welcome on board,
Mezz
