Default Hi!

Hi!

My name's Melissa. I'm from Newfoundland, Canada.

Currently, I'm a high school student working at the atlantic supermarket, Sobeys. I'm a seafood clerk there. I finish high school this year and I plan to take a couple of months off to find a new job in a local restaurant as a prep cook or something and I'll work for a while to pay for school.

My interests include cooking and baking, painting, sewing, languages(I can speak french and spanish and I'm learning norwegian), playing instruments(tin whistle, trumpet, guitar and bodhran) and I like to go out with friends.

I often cook for my family and friends and when it's someone's birthday, I make them a fancy cake, like, in the shape of something that they're interested in. Recently, I made a cake in the shape of/decorated it like a grand piano for a friend. I grew up with art and food and becoming a chef was always a career choice of mine.

Thank you for introducing yourself, Melissa. We have many culinary students here and some instructors as well; you may want to spend some time in the culinary students' forum. Our search tool can help you find discussions on particular topics you're looking for.

I think if you ask many of the professionals here how they started in the culinary world, they'll tell you they learned at home from a family member.

We hope you visit often and take part in the community discussions.
