Default hi all a noobie here

I am new to the forum. I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I am student at Mississippi State, and I am about to dual enroll at the Mississippi University for Women's culinary program. I am current major in anthropology and I am majoring in the cultural aspects of food.

I have started working in up scale restaurant called the Atlantica Grill in Jackson, MS to get some good experience before i start.

I am currently in the market for a set of knives, but i don't really know where to start. I am looking for a beginner set. I have collected custom knives for a long time but knives of that quality i way out of my price range at the moment.

i am excited about getting to this field.

Peace,

Will

Hello,
To answer your question there are many ways to get knives. to save you can go to kitchen outlet stores or seek lesser grades of popular knives (such as henkel).
To be safe, ask to use another chef's knives for a particular task. Not all knives fit all hands perfectly, so before buying experiment with different brands and sizes. remember a knife is the most important tool for a chef so don't chooses lightly.
The most important things to remember are that you need to feel comfortable using the knife, and it is not truly yours until you cut yourself with it. (it sounds weird I know, but it's true).
Good luck on finding the right knife for yourself.
