| Hi - I'm not a cooking professional (or even an amateur, for that matter). I'm a middle aged male with two kids, one of whom has an intestinal disorder. I've never had much experience cooking, other than very simple stuff, and feel deficient in this area. I want to learn to cook, and to learn about cooking, so I can prepare food for a specialized diet for my son that will be appetizing to him. It's an alternative diet geared toward crohn's disease, and the diet consists of animal proteins (meat, chicken, fish, etc.) and non-starchy carbs (most vegetables). No grains, no dairy, and no added sugars. I went shopping and found there's a lot to know just about what kind of fry pan to buy. Anyway, I have what I hope are modest goals - just to learn some very basic stuff - how to cook meats and prepare vegetables and to season them so they will be at least a little bit tasty. I'll appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. |

| Hello Novice and welcome to Chef Talk! Your son is incredibly fortunate to have a father who takes his health needs so seriously- enough to take on a new area of learning. We have members here who deal with similar dietary needs because they have them or because they cook for them. I would suggest that you try using the search tool here to sift through the many years of posts, making it easier to find what you need. Of course, we hope you'll start threads of your own in whichever forum fits best (probably Food and Cooking Questions and Discussion or Pastries and Baking General). We've recently had a conversation about selecting cookware and saute/fry pans, so that information should be quite timely for you. Please let us know what we can do to make this easier- and even enjoyable!- for you and your boys. I suspect that if you're out there on the web seeking general information in forums and on boards about managing his condition, you will very likely be able to share information wtih us, too- even recipes! Best regards, Mezzaluna
