| Hi everyone, this is my first chat ever and I'm so glad I found this site. Like others, I'm pursuing my passion in the culinary arts and this will be a major career change. The problem is that I seem to have ADD when it comes to choosing what to focus on. I love every aspect of the food industry from baking/pastry, classic gourmet, catering and specialty food production. Just wanted to see if anyone had any comments out there. It's great read all of your experiences. ![]() |

| Hi GL! Welcome! I'm a career changer too. I don't think a specialty is something to choose until you've actually experienced various ones (the ones that you care for, AND the ones you think you might like less). Do you have experience in a restaurant/catering setting? If you don't, start working part time ASAP. That's what I did. Although frankly, I'm probably as confused as ever... But when I do make a decision, I know it will have been an informed one. Good luck to you! |

| Welcome, Gourmetlover. There are quite a few career changers here, so expect some good advice. And, if you really do have ADD, it can be a reason to rejoice: it's called 'beneficial ADD', and can actually be an asset in a line of work requiring a great variety of tasks and high energy level- such as culinary arts.

| Gourmetlover~ This site is a wonderful place to explore many different venues of food. Ask questions, check the archives, then go explore on your own...something will feel right. Personnally, I have morphed into many different avenues the past couple years. Each one has challenges and each one has joys. |
