| Hello all-- I just discovered this site a couple of weeks ago but this is my first post. About me: I'm in the midst of a career change (in fact, I finally left a job of 13 years last July) and during the past month or so (while trying to decide what I want to do next in my life) I came to the conclusion that I should be doing something that I TRULY enjoy at this point in my life and that's baking. I called the local culinary school, set an appointment and met an admissions rep. for an interview. It all happened so fast that I didn't really feel like I was actually going through with it. Yet, I was excited about the idea....until I got there.....then I knew I just HAD to do this. I wanted so badly to get in that kitchen and get involved!!! I became a bit overwhelmed with the thought of actually training to do something that I enjoyed immensely, something to look forward to every single morning, as that's how I see baking. I thought for a moment to myself "Am I allowed to do this? It wouldn't seem like work if I enjoy it?!!!' I absolutely LOVE baking and do it mainly to try different things and let my family (and me) enjoy. There's nothing like that feeling of accomplishment of a job well done. I'm afraid I can't get it out of my system now. I can think of NOTHING else. I was scheduled to start culinary school/pastry arts on May 21st but received a call that the class was cancelled for some reason so I could register for the Aug. 20th class if interested. I think the cancellation was a blessing in disguise because I couldn't afford to pay by May 21st. Too many other things are going on right now. The August start date definitely gives me more time to prepare financially. I'm anxious and excited now, even though it's 4 months away and I have no idea how I'm going to pay but I think with it being something that I enjoy, I KNOW I'll find a way to do it! Well, I have gone on long enough but I just wanted to say hi to everyone and join in the discussions. Any tips for the newcomer would be greatly appreciated! What are you all baking for Easter this weekend? |
