 Greetings! First-timer! Hello everyone! I am first and always my kids mom! Soon to be an "empty'nester" I love to cook, so I guess this is the place to be. I am part owner of a two year old bookstore (read "no paycheck!") and I love the bookstore, truly love working there, BUT lately I've been wondering if it's possible to make a hobby (cooking) into a career when your 48 years young. I have been cooking for 25 years for hubby & kids and I just love it more all the time. Sooooo, just thinkin'......plus I dream wistfully of things like being paid regularly instead of once every so often if we've had a good month and let some of the bills wait basis. | Hi MamaD, Welcome to cheftalk... If you don't mind paying your dues in a new career, there's no reason why you shouldn't consider the food business. But it is hard physical work, and often involves a lot of hours, depending where you end up working. Read the culinary students forum, and you'll learn a lot from those who are(or were) in your very position.
